Make Your Garden Shine This Spring

March 23, 2025

It’s that time of the year again. The bees are starting to hum, the butterflies are searching the bright flowers and the sound of your neighbour with a lawn mower at 8am on a Sunday is pleasant and equally irritating…

Yes, it’s spring and for those of you who are looking to sell or just want to make your garden look nice and bright this year, there are things you can be doing right now that will make your garden shine.

Before we start though we consulted with our own lawn expert – luckily not Gareth – but the brilliant Moore Maintenance who has gardens looking good enough for the Chelsea Flower Show!

If you want your garden to sparkle and be Spring ready, this is what we suggest.

Start with a declutter

The dark and cold winter months which never seem to end are coming to a conclusion. In just 20 days time the sun will set later and we will see more of our gardens. For those of us lucky enough to have a garden office we will see the garden even more than usual…

But before you do anything give your garden a good declutter. Take out the old, wilting, weather killed plants, remove the twigs and branches from the usual places and finally get rid of those weeds. This will not only make the garden instantly look better but it will help rid the garden of any plant related problems and diseases.

Start some maintenance

What about pruning and trimming of bushes, trees, the ever popular olive trees and even the good old year round shrubs? Yes, do all of this. Providing clean lines and giving your plants time to regenerate and grow the way they need to is always a good idea.

Second to this is lawn care. As Moor Maintenance even told us, “the lawn is the focal point of any garden and often the first thing people notice, with good annual lawn treatments your lawn will really stand out.”

Think about raking up dead leaves, scarifying your lawn and then providing some top quality feed and improver to enhance its appearance is always a good thing to do.

Get some flowers or buds in your pots

There is still time to plant buds in your pots but if you can’t fear not because the good old garden centres have some great solutions, including germinating varieties.

But the point is this, bring some colour and life into your garden. Get those plants potted, a good drink and some feed and see how they will keep your garden bright and alive with bees, butterflies and birds. The perfect combination for really showing off your garden space or giving you the look and feel that will be perfect for your house viewers.

Set up some garden furniture

If you have old furniture that was left out over winter but is useable, give it a good clean and wipedown. If you need to go and buy some then you want to think about the space you have and importantly, take some measurements before buying anything!

The great new inclusion into every garden in the last few years has been the humble pizza oven. Well, this is a real selling point if you have a space dedicated to the area so, give it a good clean and think about how you would stage this for a viewing too!

Give your fences and floors a good seeing to…

Aside from the sound of a lawnmower blasting away when you’re trying to catch up on some more precious sleep is also the sound of the arguments you’ll hear about fence paint colours…

But seriously, if your fence needs a lick of paint, give it one. Not only does this better protect the wood, it keeps your garden looking neat and tidy and if anything, it really boosts your curb appeal.

In addition to all of this what about your patio? When was the last time it was cleaned? Really cleaned? Yeah, we thought so. Lots of Karcher sounds are coming off the page right now but that’s good because your patio, like your fences need to be cared for and if you’re putting pots down, then there is no place better than a clean patio.

And finally, some decorations…

From fairy lights to led strips, remote controlled water systems to even just the most basic of garden decorations, yes, a birdfeeder, all these little things show that your garden is a haven, an escape from the escape.

Doing the little things really well in your garden will give your viewers and even yourselves just a really good experience.

So, if you want help with your garden, need tips or some muscle, remember to give Moore Maintenance a call who can do all of the above and more. And if you want to sell your home, remember to call on us as well.
